PM Modi emphasized that while global telecom is often viewed merely as a service, India has transformed it into a catalyst for equity and opportunity. “Telecom in India is not just about connectivity; it’s about bridging divides and creating opportunities,” he explained. He shared how digital initiatives are helping reduce the gap between urban and rural areas, as well as among various economic groups. “Technology is reaching every household, connecting people to new opportunities,” PM Modi stated.

During the pandemic, India’s digital infrastructure played a pivotal role, enabling the government to deliver financial aid, share real-time guidelines, and manage the vaccination process efficiently. He highlighted that India’s experience in digital governance has shaped its approach to welfare, facilitating efficient service delivery to millions.

Empowering Women Through Technology

At the event, PM Modi addressed the efforts to empower women through technology, highlighting initiatives such as Drone Didis, which promotes the use of drones in agriculture, and the Bank Sakhis program, encouraging women to lead in digital banking at the grassroots level. “India is dedicated to inclusive technology that empowers women, evident across various sectors—from space missions to STEM education,” he noted, adding that women now constitute over 40% of students in STEM fields.

The Prime Minister stressed that inclusivity must remain central to technology adoption. “We are building a digital ecosystem that is accessible, secure, and equitable, ensuring no one is left behind,” he asserted.

Advocating for Global Standards in Digital Technology

PM Modi called for global governance and standards in digital technology, urging international institutions to prioritize cybersecurity and data privacy. “It’s time for a global framework for digital technology,” he insisted, comparing it to international regulations developed for aviation. He proposed that institutions like WTSA take a proactive role in establishing these standards to ensure a safer, more connected world.

The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to responsible technology use, referencing the nation’s Data Protection Act and National Cyber Security Strategy as evidence of India’s dedication to a secure digital ecosystem. He encouraged other countries to develop inclusive and adaptable standards, especially concerning ethical AI and data privacy.

As PM Modi concluded his address, he reaffirmed India’s goal of achieving a human-centric approach to technology that prioritizes ethical considerations alongside innovation. “Our future should not only be technically robust but also ethically sound,” he emphasized. He expressed optimism about technology’s role in driving global progress, stating, “In this digital era, we must aim for innovation with inclusion, ensuring that every community, region, and country benefits.”
