Meta Restores Facebook and Instagram Services After Brief U.S. Outage

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has largely restored services for most U.S. users after a temporary outage on Monday. According to outage tracker Downdetector, the disruption affected thousands of users across the U.S., with over 12,000 reports of Facebook issues and more than 5,000 reports for Instagram at the peak, which occurred around 1:35 p.m. ET.

Outage Numbers Decline

As of 2:09 p.m. ET, the number of reported issues had significantly decreased to around 450 for Instagram and 659 for Facebook. These figures were compiled by Downdetector, which gathers user-submitted reports from various sources. However, the actual number of users affected could vary from these reported incidents.

Meta Yet to Comment

Meta Platforms has not yet issued an official response or explanation for the outage. Earlier in the year, a similar outage affected hundreds of thousands of users globally, lasting for more than two hours. That incident was attributed to a technical issue and saw more than 550,000 disruptions for Facebook and about 92,000 for Instagram at its peak, according to Downdetector.

This recent outage serves as a reminder of the occasional technical glitches that can impact major social media platforms, even for a short duration.
